The Multi Facet Donger (MFD) is a tool used in termite and building inspections to check for damage in materials including timber. When knocking or tapping this donger against a surface, a change in tone and sound is produced around areas where damage or anomalies are present.
Our new Telescopic Multi Facet Donger™ or TMFD has a lightweight carbon fibre telescopic shaft, a removable head and an integrated timber hardness tester. When fully extended, twisting each section slightly right locks it into place, with all sections locked an average forward pressure of 10kgs can be applied. Twist left to unlock and collapse.
The telescopic Multi Facet Donger has been designed with convenience and portability in mind, it weighs only 170g and is just 36.5 cm long when collapsed, easily usable with a tool belt or most standard-sized toolboxes.
Dongers are a tried and true building and termite inspection device used by pest managers to detect hidden threats.
This unique donger has been designed to reduce the risk of missing timber damage by providing greater surface contact and covering substantially more surface area than conventional tools.
This tool is typically known as a Donger but is also referred to as a timber sounder, tapper, knocker or probe.
Key features and benefits of the Telescopic Multi-Facet Donger
- Produces a change in tone and sound when tapped against surfaces where damage or anomalies are present
- Engineered to better reveal damaged timbers via sound and to cover more surface area than conventional tools
- Weighs only 170g and is just 36.5 cm long when collapsed so it is easily usable with a tool belt or most standard-sized toolboxes.
- Lightweight carbon fibre telescopic shaft, a removable head and an integrated timber hardness tester
- When the telescopic shaft is fully extended, twisting each section slightly right locks it into place, with all sections locked an average forward pressure of 10kgs can be applied.
What is unique about the Multi-Facet Donger?
Traditional timber inspection tools, often just round balls, provide minimal contact with the surface, covering only about 0.7cm of timber per tap. This limited contact means crucial areas, especially along skirting boards where termite activity can lurk beneath carpets, are easily missed.
This unique Multi-Facet Donger is designed to tackle this issue head-on. Unlike its conventional counterparts, the donger employs two detection methods. Firstly, it utilises the traditional tapping technique. Secondly, it introduces a new approach - using the flat side of the tool to slide along the timber. This method significantly increases surface area contact, spanning over 14cm, and extends detection down to carpet or tile level.
With the Multi-Facet Donger, the risk of overlooking termite damage or other timber defects such as wood decay is greatly reduced. Invest in peace of mind with the MFD for comprehensive timber inspections.
