Case Study: Bird Free Optical Gel causes pigeons to abandon their habitat

Bird Free Optical Gel is a multi-sensory repellent that deters pigeons by targeting their senses of sight, smell and touch. Rather than creating a physical barrier, it alters their behaviour and makes their nest or roost so abhorrent that it’s no longer perceived as habitable.

In this successful case study, pigeons had a long-standing night roost at this villa and the owner wanted a discreet solution. Bird Free Optical Gel was fitted and immediately caused the resident pigeons to abandon the site. Here’s how they did it…

Installation Process

Night roosts were located against the walls on the upper roof and the rear of the lower roof, and in addition the pigeons were alighting on the front edge and the V-shaped raised ‘hips’ of the lower roof.

After the roofs had been disinfected, dishes of Bird Free Optical Gel were fitted to the night roosts at a spacing of 20cm from centre-to-centre, and also to the landing areas with 25cm spacing between the dish centres.

In addition, two rows of Bird Free Optical Gel dishes were fitted at 20cm centre-to-centre spacing to the top of the pitched roof against the wall (see above image left) and to the rear of the lower roof (see above image right) to prevent night roosting. Dishes were also fitted at 25cm spacing to the front of the lower tiled roof and to the front of the parapet to prevent pigeons from landing.

Immediate Results

This treatment was applied during the day, and hours later, a video captured the reaction of approximately 20 pigeons attempting to return to their roosts that evening. Upon spotting the Bird Free Optical Gel, they abandoned the site within seconds – proof of its immediate impact.

By making their habitual night roosts inhabitable, Bird Free Optical Gel successfully deterred the pigeons and resolved the problem.
