Here are some key pieces of termite detection equipment every professional should have in their toolkit!

A powerful torch, whether handheld or worn as a headlamp, is crucial for inspecting all spaces from interiors to subfloors for mud tubes and other evidence of termite activity – pay close attention to areas like skirting boards, cornices, the underside of floorboards and floor joists.

Dongers, also known as timber sounders, tappers or probes, are tried and true tools that detect termite damage by producing a change in sound when tapped against affected areas. Keep an ear out for anomalies indicated by a hollow sound when systematically tapping against areas like wooden beams, skirting frames, doorframes and window frames, that could indicate termite damage.

Moisture meters scan walls for build-ups of moisture which can indicate the presence of termites which excrete moisture-filled ‘mud’.
